Collaboration is Key to Dental Project Success

Dozens of Bhutanese refugees have received much-needed dental care in a unique collaboration between the IRC and the Charlottesville Free Clinic (CFC) made possible with support from the Adiuvans Fund. Adult refugees without dental insurance were able to receive cleanings and treatment, accompanied by live language interpretation, during 11 day-long clinics. The clinics required close coordination between the IRC and CFC staff, as well as interpreters and refugee clients – who fulfilled nearly 100 percent of their scheduled appointments, including many multiple visits. Care included comprehensive exams, fillings, extractions, cleaning, and oral hygiene instruction.
