World Refugee Day

The United Nations has designated June 20 as World Refugee Day, a day to recognize and celebrate the contributions of refugees around the world.

In Charlottesville, the IRC will celebrate the refugees we’ve resettled in this community with a picnic at Washington Park on Saturday, June 19 from 12-2pm. The IRC will also recognize our invaluable community volunteers at this time, and announce our annual Employer Leadership Award. The Employer Leadership Award will honor a Charlottesville company that has discovered the benefits of hiring refugees to meet their staffing needs, while simultaneously offering refugees an opportunity to integrate into the community and achieve economic self-sufficiency.
