Volunteering with the IRC in Dallas and Abilene
The IRC in Dallas and the IRC in Abilene offer a wide variety of volunteer and internship opportunities for members of the community, businesses, students, retirees and groups. Whether you are interested in volunteering for a few weeks, a few months or completing an internship for college credit, the IRC has an opportunity that will fit your schedule. At the IRC in Dallas and Abilene, volunteers and interns can serve in departments that include case management, job readiness and employment services, refugee social services, immigration services, and community outreach and fundraising. Volunteers can help refugees acclimate to their new homes by serving as family mentors, create welcome baskets for new families, greet refugees at the airport, organize donation drives or do it yourself fundraising initiatives, or provide administrative or professional services that support the mission of the IRC.
All potential volunteers are asked to attend a volunteer orientation, fill out a volunteer application and complete a background check. For family mentors, there is additional training immediately following the general volunteer orientation. Once you have completed the orientation, we will begin the process of integrating you into the volunteer program, and assign you to a position in your identified area of interest.
