Internships: Spring 2011
The International Rescue Committee in Los Angeles is now accepting applications for spring 2011 internships. All candidates must be over the age of 18, interested in refugee issues, and able to commit at least 12 hours per week, for most of the spring.

Research and Data Intern
The Research and Data Intern will be in charge of doing research for the Early Employment Program, pertaining to services received during enrollment, post enrollment, as well as additional needs as dictated by refugees and asylees, enrolled in the program. Additionally, the intern will help Early Employment Program staff reach out to local businesses/community, in an effort to establish potential employment partnerships.
Time Commitment: 12+ hours a week during standard business hours (Monday through Friday, 9am—5pm).
Employment Assistant Intern
The Employment Assistant Intern works closely with Case Workers as part of the Resettlement Services team to support all aspects of client’s employment. This intern will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with refugees, in order to identify and meet employment needs, including creating resumes, completing applications, and drafting cover letters. Other internship duties include; identifying potential employers, visiting local businesses, accompanying refugees to job interviews, assist with data entry projects, and doing basic research for refugees, pertaining to job training, apprenticeships, recertification and education programs.
Time Commitment: 12+ hours a week during standard business hours (Monday through Friday, 9am—5pm).
Employment and Outreach Services Intern
The Employment and Outreach Services Intern will be in charge of conducting Networking Nights, geared for refugees and asylees enrolled in IRC’s Early Employment Program. The Employment and Outreach Services Intern will also help Early Employment staff and interns; reach out to local businesses/community, in an effort to establish potential employment partnerships.
Time Commitment: 12+ hours a week during standard business hours (Monday through Friday, 9am—5pm).
Communications and Marketing Intern
The Communications and Marketing Intern will help IRC generate content for publication—articles, brochures and flyers. The intern will be responsible for researching possible interview subjects/story ideas, writing content and articles for the Web site and IRC newsletter, creating brochures, flyers, pamphlets, and additional materials which will be distributed to the general public.
Time Commitment: 12+ hours a week during standard business hours (Monday through Friday, 9am—5pm)
Development Intern
The Development Intern will assist IRC staff in planning and conducting fundraising events; building donor networks; soliciting, collecting, managing, and tracking donations; and assisting with advocacy for refugees and public education about refugees and IRC.
Time Commitment: 12+ hours a week during standard business hours (Monday through Friday, 9am—5pm)
Immigration Intern
The Immigration Intern will help provide IRC clients with assistance in filing immigration applications, which will allow newly arrived refugees and newly approved asylees to become permanent citizens of the US. The intern will assist IRC's clients with filing various immigration forms and will serve as the contact person for families to check on the status of their applications.
