IRC Presence at Unity Fest Proves Successful
The International Rescue Committee in Los Angeles celebrated unity through diversity and introduced the local community to its humanitarian mission on Sunday, October 10 at Glendale’s 9th Annual Unity Fest. This was IRC’s first time participating in the event.
Stationed on Brand Boulevard, staff distributed flyers and brochures, highlighting IRC’s mission and efforts to aid refugees both at home and abroad. IRC programs, such as immigration/citizenship and employment services, were introduced to the community. Guests had the opportunity to inquire about the volunteer program and receive information on ways one could assist newly arrived refugees.
“Participating in the Unity Fest allowed us to make our presence known in the community,” said IRC Employment Specialist Luisa Gavoutian.
“Many people are not aware that the IRC in Los Angeles is located in Glendale. People curiously approached the table, wondering who we were. It was nice to be able to let people know. It was fun and we look forward to doing it again next year,” said Gavoutian.
