Peace Corps Comes to IRC Los Angeles

The International Rescue Committee in Los Angeles welcomed Peace Corps Regional Recruiter, Lindsay Humphries, for an informational workshop geared for IRC staff and volunteers, interested in the Peace Corps’ mission. More than a dozen individuals listened to Lindsay talk about the challenges and demands of being in the Peace Corps and the rewards and impact it can have on one’s life.

Since 1961, the Peace Corps has aimed to promote world peace and friendship by placing volunteers in host countries. These volunteers work in a variety of areas—education, youth and community development, health and HIV/AIDS education, agriculture, environment, among others. To date, nearly 200,000 Americans have joined the Peace Corps, serving in 139 countries.
