International Rescue Committee (IRC)

Volunteer Orientations: September 2010

*Please note, the Saturday, September 25 Volunteer Orientation has been cancelled.

IRC offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for members of the community, businesses, students, and retirees. Whether you are interested in volunteering for a few weeks or a few months, we will work with you to identify fulfilling activities that will fit your schedule. Most volunteer opportunities take place during our normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 9am—5pm and sample assignments include:

-Coaching refugees seeking employment and supporting their job search activities
-Conducting mock interviews with refugees seeking employment
-Mentoring a refugee family on their journey to adjust to a new life in the U.S.
-Working with IRC Case Workers to provide administrative and logistical support to staff and refugees
-Volunteering at any of our single-day community events

All volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation and complete a background check* before IRC confirms acceptance into the program. Once these preliminary steps are completed, you will be placed into a meaningful and rewarding volunteer assignment.

Upcoming Volunteer Orientations

-Thursday, September 9, 2010 from 3:30—5pm
-Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 10:30am—12pm

Due to limited space, only those who have submitted an RSVP will be admitted. Please note, if you plan on bringing a guest, you must RSVP for them as well. All RSVP’s must be received at least a week before the scheduled orientation date.

All volunteer orientations take place at the IRC office, located in the Glendale Corporate Center, at 425 East Colorado Street, Suite 550, Glendale, CA 91205.

For more information or to RSVP, please contact our volunteer coordinator at VolunteerLA@theIRC.org or, +1 818 550 6220 x6514.

*IRC asks all volunteers to cover the modest cost of their background check, as a contribution to our organization. Should this prove to be an impediment to your application to work with us, you may speak to the volunteer coordinator regarding your concerns.
