ESL & Civics Class Graduation and Generous Donors
On Friday October 4th, the IRC in Miami held yet another successful ESL and Civics class Graduation, celebrating the completion of 5 different classes. The classes were held in different neighborhoods in Miami, making them more accessible to the community. Six volunteer and intern ESL/Civics teachers were present to support their students and receive a token of appreciation from the IRC team.
As the classes were announced to receive their certificates the students cheered and showed immense pride in their classmates. Many took a moment to share their experiences, the appreciation they have for their volunteer teachers and the IRC. They shared how prepared they feel for the naturalization exam and how much they learned. One student shared how she didn’t expect to learn so much, but she fell in love with American History. She encouraged the people in the IRC conference room to study the history of their new country as well, and to fall in love with it as she had.
The IRC in Miami had the privilege of having wonderful donors sponsor the graduation. The IRC thanks Leon Medical Centers, Miami’s leading healthcare services provider serving Medicare patients since 1996, for their generous contribution of beverages, food and a great D.jay! With their assistance the event was taken to a new level!
The IRC also could not have done it without the donation of EL Palacio De Los Jugios. This authentic “juice palace” is where people of all ages come together to load up on Cuban delicacies, amazing natural fruit juices (including mamey, guava, papaya, and coconut), fresh produce, mariquitas, and finger-licking chicharrones. Apaulina Bermundez, her friends call her Poly, owns the dazzling EL Palacio De los Jugos along with her husband. Poly’s nephew and his family were resettled by the IRC and now owns a business and sells at the famous Miami eatery. Their story is truly inspiring as the circle of resettlement and integration are on full display with their generous donation of amazing Cuban food and natural juices to the IRC in Miami!
