Inaugurating New Roots at Grand Concourse

DOT and IRC inaugurate New Roots Community Farm at Grand Concourse
“By next year, this 6,500-square-foot lot will be a thriving community garden that ties together the neighborhood and people who came here from around the world,” these were some of the opening remarks given by Department of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan at the inauguration of the IRC in New York’s second New Roots Community Farm located at Grand Concourse and East 153rd Street, in the Bronx.
IRC community gardeners, neighbors, students from KIPP Academy and volunteers cheered on as the first batch of peppers, tomatoes and basil plants were put in the ground.
