Job Placement Highlights
Although most newly arrived refugees enter the job market with entry level “survival” jobs, which are often beneath their level of professional experience, many partner employers recognize the strong work ethic and tremendous dedication refugees and asylees bring to the table, often resulting in promotions or full-time offers of employment. With the help of volunteers who offer many hours of their time every week to assist clients with resume writing, interview preparation and overall job readiness, the Employment Services team at the IRC in New York is continuously able to make exciting job placements.
Highlights of the most recent placements include:
Gilbert – a former accountant in his native Burkina Faso, was placed at Sofitel Hotel, initially as a paid accounting intern. Through his diligence and hard work, we are thrilled to announce Gilbert’s recent job offer as full time accountant at Sofitel.
Nawar – a fluent English and Arabic speaker from Iraq was recently placed as an Arabic-speaking Administrative Assistant at New York Presbyterian’s Middle East Services Group.
Tenzing - a Tibetan asylee who formerly worked as a chef in Russia was recently placed as a temporary Head Cook at Sofitel Hotel, a position we are hoping will turn into a permanent placement.
Suk Man - a Bhutanese refugee who formerly worked as an English teacher in Nepal was offered a full-time position as part of the office services team at Clearly, Gottlieb, Steen and Hamilton LLP.
Congratulations to everyone involved in ameliorating the lives of the refugee and asylee men and women we serve.
