Volunteer Community Garden Coordinator
Location: Drew Gardens, West Farms, Bronx 
Hours:  10-15 hours per week, plus monthly meetings (approximately 2 hours per meeting)  
 
Position Summary:  The Community Garden Coordinator will help to oversee the growing and maintenance of two, mid-sized garden plots at Drew Gardens in the Bronx. The coordinator will be in charge of overall plot upkeep, serving as a liaison between IRC gardeners and Drew Gardens’ management and communicating with the IRC’s Community Integration Manager on a consistent basis. The person applying for this volunteer position will be expected to make a six month commitment and retain a reliable, weekly, garden visitation schedule.  
 
 
Key Responsibilities: 
• Travel to and spend 10-15 hours at garden plots on a weekly basis;
• Attend monthly Drew Gardens’ meetings;
• Keep thorough and accurate records of when IRC gardeners visit their plots;
• Ensure that all IRC gardeners are following all Drew Gardens’ rules;
• Communicate with the Community Integration Manager on individual gardener progress and/or struggles on a               consistent basis;
• Serve as a liaison between IRC gardeners and Drew Gardens’ staff;
• Oversee general garden plot upkeep.  
 
Position Requirements:  
• Prior gardening experience recommended;
• Comfort working with refugees from a variety of backgrounds, including those with limited English language skills;
• Ability to adapt to changing situations; 
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; 
• Ability to commit to six months of garden oversight/coordination;
• Bilingual/bicultural in a refugee language/culture is highly desirable.
