Commemorating World Refugee Day 2012 in Northern California
Each year on June 20th, the international community observes World Refugee Day. Its establishment was marked with the United Nations General Assembly’sadoption of Resolution 55/76 in 2000, whereby the UN decided that as from 2001, June 20th would be celebrated as World Refugee Day. Refugees continue to be one of the most vulnerable people in the world and this is a day dedicated to raising awareness to the protection of their fundamental human rights.
There will be many events across our local communities to commemorate World Refugee Day and the International Rescue Committee in Northern California invites you to join us for some of our scheduled events.
