Cycles of Change Partners with IRC to Provide Mobility for Refugees

Cycles of Change has assisted refugees through the IRC Northern California for the past several years by providing bicycle safety training courses and equipment donations for free to our newly arrived refugees. The one-day course provides information on how to navigate a bicycle through an urban environment, how to prevent theft, and how to maintain their new bicycle. At the end of the day, each refugee student receives a bicycle of their very own and a helmet, lock, bike lights, and tire repair kit.

Cycles of Change provides a highly valuable and appreciated service to IRC refugees as the bicycles expand their potential areas of employment, provide transportation, and promote a healthy and active lifestyle. One Somalian refugee expressed his gratitude for the course, saying, “thanks to [Cycles of Change], I have my own bike for work. I was walking many miles before.” Cycles of Change is equally as excited to work with the IRC Northern California as the Program Director, Andre, said “I really enjoy working with the refugee community as they show great appreciation for our work and truly benefit from the bicycle donation”. Cycles of Change has been partnering with local organizations for over ten years and we here at the IRC Northern California look forward to working with them more in the future.
