IRC Oakland Launches New 'Culinary Class' for Refugee Clients

The IRC is putting on its apron and stepping into the kitchen, as the Oakland office has developed a specialized training program for its newly arrived refugee clients. The new 'Culinary Class' is focused on preparing refugees to work in restaurant kitchens. As a part of the 16-hour course, students will learn the basics of sanitation, serving, prep-cook, and grilling in addition to acquiring their California Food Handlers Certificate. This initiative aims to increase the preparedness and competitiveness of refugees when seeking employment after their arrival in the U.S. The Oakland office will be holding its first class by the end of this month in hopes of getting its current clients trained and ready for self-sufficiency as soon as possible!
