IRC in Turlock’s ESL Program Produces Award Winning Student

In Turlock, CA, the IRC is producing award winning English as a Second Language students! Recently, Baneebal, and IRC client and 25 year old refugee from Iraq received the Outstanding Student Achievement Award for English as a Second Language from the Literacy Network of Stanislaus County. In only six short weeks, he was able to stand out as an exceptional student and gain enough skill that he quickly began volunteering to help other students in the class.

IRC’s ESL Instructor, Linda Listener, nominated him for the award stating that “Baneebal wants to succeed in this country and is proactive in helping himself obtain a job.   He was hired at one agency and his work was superior.  Because of Baneebal, the agency hired four other refugees from our program.”

IRC in Turlock offers ESL classes for refugees in the country for five years or less. Class are held every day from 9am-1pm for six weeks. New class sessions start every eight weeks, with the next session beginning May 14th.
