Join us for our World Refugee Day Celebration!

“No one wants to become a refugee. No one should have to endure this humiliating and arduous ordeal. Yet, millions do. Even one refugee forced to flee, one refugee forced to return to danger is one too many.” Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Message for World Refugee Day 2011.

The IRC is celebrating World Refugee Day both in Tucson and Phoenix alongside many other agencies and community groups. This event honors the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homeland under threat of persecution, conflict and violence.

In Phoenix, there will be a World Refugee Day celebration on Wednesday, June 20th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Phoenix Public Market (721 N. Central Avenue, Downtown Phoenix). The event will take place during the weekly Wednesday farmers market.  Come meet refugee farmers, refugee owned restaurants, businesses, refugee artists and local agencies that support refugees. The event will feature refugee grown produce and businesses selling food, products and crafts. We’ll also have performances and refugee speakers. Please come down to watch some talented performers and sample food from around the world!

We hope you will share this special event with us. Everyone is welcome! If you are interested in volunteering at the event or would like more information, please contact Alexandra Nally at Alexandra.Nally@Rescue.org.
