Life Skills classes offered to young adult refugees
We are excited to announce our redesigned Life Skills Class for young adult refugees ages 18-22 years old. Classes meet each Wednesday from 4-6pm for eight consecutive weeks and focus on topics ranging from self esteem, goal setting and sexual health, to effective communication and the risks of drugs and alcohol, just to name a few. The program consists of on-site educational activities in addition to occasional field trips and community centered events.
We welcomed eleven refugee participants at the start of the program last week with the goals of increasing their knowledge of covered topics, providing them a safe space to voice their questions and concerns about being in a new place as well as to provide an opportunity to engage with volunteers for greater cultural exchange and understanding. Participants will work with volunteers offering individualized support and mentoring throughout the program.
