International Rescue Committee (IRC)

Thank you to our generous donors and volunteers that made Light One Candle a success

Each year the International Rescue Committee in Salt Lake City organizes a holiday donation drive called Light One Candle to provide donations for refugee families. This year through the generous support of local businesses, community groups and individuals we were able to provide over $10,000 in donations to 50 refugee families! Thanks to the 13 volunteers from local Wal-Mart stores in Layton, Centerville and Harrisville donating 53 hours of their time to organize, inventory and distribute donations during the first week of January. The success of Light One Candle can not only be measured in numbers, but also by the smiles on children’s faces who received gifts. At the distribution event in early January refugee families were greeted by volunteers to load up their donations including toys, board games, art supplies, warm clothes and other essential household items.

The IRC would like to thank everyone who was involved with Light One Candle this year. We especially want to thank our local businesses, school and community groups that donated including: Gateway Academy, Hilton Salt Lake City Center, Old Navy’s Southtown, American Fork, and Orem stores, Summit Sotheby’s International Realty – Salt Lake City, the TOPS Division of Zions Bancorporation, Wal-Mart Stores and the Parley’s 4th Ward Youth Group.
