Entrepreneur of the Month: Fifi Commerical Cleaning

Fifi Commerical CleaningFifi Commercial Cleaning is a commercial and residential cleaning business that serves Central and East San Diego County. The business was established by Furainne Jean-Baptiste, a Haitian asylee that arrived to the United States in 2001.

Furainne, known as Fifi to her friends and family, originally established her cleaning business in 2006 but had to put her plans on hold when her job began demanding more of her hours. In 2009, due to the economic downturn, Fifi lost her job and decided to once again pursue her business idea.

Fifi came to the IRC Microenterprise Program asking for help in creating a business plan. She enrolled in the IRC and Women’s Empowerment International’s Center for STAR Women, where she received technical assistance and business counseling. She then applied for an IRC Microenteprise loan, and was approved for $5,000 to cover the costs associated with re-starting her business. Fifi has also accessed a wide array of Microenterprise and STAR Center’s marketing services, including: logo development, business card design, website design and access to promotional photography.

Fifi is the IRC Entrepreneur of the Month for May 2012 in recognition of the extraordinary work she has done in re-starting her business. In the future, she hopes to expand her business and hire fellow community members.
