Michelle Obama visited the IRC New Roots Community Farm

Michelle ObamaThe IRC in San Diego was thrilled that First Lady Michelle Obama visited the New Roots Community Farm yesterday (April 15, 2010).  She was led on a tour by IRC Farm Coordinator Amy Lint where she met three of the farmers and chatted briefly with each. The farmers were from Cambodia, Zimbabwe, and Somalia.  Mrs. Obama was in San Diego to promote the Let's Move campaign in partnership with the California Endowment's Building Healthy Families campaign.

About the farm, she said, "The world is watching what is going on on this plot of land. You are truly doing phenomenal work".  She also said that the refugee farmers are making a healthier life for their children.
