AmeriCorps*VSITA members contribute a year of national service under the umbrella of the Corporation for National and Community Service. First Things First Family Learning Center VISTA Member

The First Things First VISTA will assist in the operation of the First Things First Family Learning Center which provides ESL for adults with limited literacy skills and childcare for children up to age 5 years.
The tasks and activities will be to:
• Research and develop funding resources to ensure project sustainability;
• Secure donations from the community to assist refugee families;
• Assist with volunteer recruitment, training, and coordination;
• Assist in collecting data for evaluation purposes and reporting; and
• Raise awareness the program through media outreach, public relations, and marketing materials.
Recommended skills and qualifications include:
• University Degree;
• An interest in working with refugee adults and children;
• Excellent writing skills;
• Experience coordinating a project or group of volunteers; and
• Interest in Education.
Resource Development/Volunteer Coordinator VISTA Member

The Volunteer Coordination VISTA will assist with volunteer recruitment and placement for the IRC office. This position will also coordinate outreach to youth.
The tasks and activities will be to:
• Assess the volunteer needs for the new El Cajon office, establish a volunteer program;
• Develop relationships with community and educational organizations for volunteer recruitment;
• Coordinate with other departments to ascertain volunteer needs;
• Recruit volunteers for the IRC Programs;
• Coordinate training and recognition activities for volunteers; and
• Research and develop funding resources to ensure project sustainability.
Recommended skills and qualifications include:
• University degree;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
• Management or volunteer coordination experience desirable;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanor; and
• Strong computer and organizational skills.
Microenterprise VISTA Member

The tasks and activities will be to:
• Develop and implement new microenterprise initiatives for refugees living in El Cajon
• Conduct market research and outreach to identify the needs and challenges of new and existing microenterprise owners in El Cajon
• Develop strategic partnerships with organizations, businesses, churches, and community leaders
• Develop microenterprise products and services to meet the needs of refugees in El Cajon
• Conduct outreach and marketing of microenterprise and other economic development services
Recommended skills and qualifications include:
• University degree;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
• Arabic language skills a plus;
• Strong interest/experience in microenterprise or microfinance;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanor; and
• Strong computer skills.
Career Development VISTA Member

The Career Development VISTA will assist in the capacity building of the Career Development Program.
The tasks and activities will be to:
• Conduct labor market analysis of emerging industries;
• Create career profiles for at least 20 careers;
• Develop curriculum for dept orientation, career society, and customer service workshop;
• Create marketing material to promote IRC services and programs to potential employers;
• Build relationships with employers and local higher education providers, schedule regular meetings with hiring managers and college admin; and
• Maintain employer database
