Outcasts United Author Visits IRC San Diego
If you listen to KPBS, you may have heard the radio spots recorded by an IRC staff member and an IRC client to promote the book Outcasts United – A Refugee Team, an American Town. Outcasts United is the One Book One San Diego selection for 2010. The IRC worked closely with KPBS and the San Diego Public Library to plan several events during a recent visit by Warren St. John, the author.
Mr. St. John talked with refugee high school students in the IRC Students Plus Afterschool program, he toured the IRC office, and he visited the New Roots Community Farm. During the formal events, he mentioned IRC fondly and encouraged the audience to get involved and make a difference in the life of a refugee family.
The IRC will participate in future One Book One San Diego events throughout the year with both KPBS and the San Diego Public Library including a refugee soccer tournament, a toiletry drive at the branches of the libraries, and an exhibit at the downtown library.
