Thank You Union Bank
The IRC was thrilled to receive two $10,000 checks from Union Bank to support the Microenterprise Program and the Aquaponic Farm.
The IRC Microenterprise Program assists refugees to start their own businesses. The Microenterprise Program staff assist refugees with writing business plans, negotiating leases, and developing marketing materials. Small business loans are also available to refugee entrepreneurs. The Microenterprise Program has helped to start over 150 refugee-owned businesses in San Diego. Businesses include a hair salon, limousine business, pizza parlor, restaurant, catering business, handyman service, and child care. To learn more, please contact Joel.Chrisco@rescue.org
The Aquaponic Farm is IRC's newest community food project. Located in City Heights, the aquaponics system sits on a small site surrounded by beautiful vegetable beds. The system includes two tanks with 1,400 talapia connected to 12 hydroponic vegetable beds all housed in green house. IRC's vision for the aquaponic farm is that it will demonstrate a variety of effective production techniques that create a compelling case for more San Diego residents to become engaged in growing, eating and/or selling locally produced food. To learn more about the farm or the IRC Food Security program, please contact Anchi.Mei@rescue.org.
