The Gala features private museum access, a champagne and hors d’oeuvres reception, Liberian dance and drums, and a silent art auction of conflict zone photography by photojournalists Eros Hoagland and James Lee.
The Tarlesson Family was resettled by the IRC in San Francisco following unrest in Liberia. They now reside in the Capay Valley, northwest of Sacramento. In addition to being dancers, percussionists and performers, they own and operate a family farm and are known as the number one African vegetable and meat producers in Northern California.
Eros Hoagland began working as a photojournalist in 1993, covering the aftermath of El Salvador's civil war. He has since worked in countries overwhelmed by violence and unrest across the globe including Iraq, Haiti, Eritrea and Colombia. His work has appeared in TIME, Newsweek, The New York Times, Men's Journal, Fader, FORTUNE, Forbes, and others.
James Lee, a San Francisco based photographer and writer has worked extensively throughout the Middle East and South Asia. He is also a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and traveled alongside Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) near the border of Pakistan. His resulting photo essay, Counter-Narratives, sensitively depicts the human costs of protracted conflict and a ground-level perspective of ANSF operations far from any US military presence. James' work has been featured on Salon.com and at The Museum of Ventura County.
Thanks to the support of Eros Hoagland, James Lee, The Tarlesson Family, The IRC in San Francisco Advisory Committee and our generous sponsors: The Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD), Barefoot Wine and Bubbly, Urban Picnic, Jude Sullivan Catering, Left Coast Catering and the Junior League of San Francisco.
