Adopt-a-Family 2011: Make a difference in the life of a refugee family today!

This holiday season, help bring joy and comfort to a newly arrived refugee family living in King County. Through the International Rescue Committee’s Adopt-a-Family program, you have the unique opportunity to bring happiness to refugee children and help a family feel welcomed in our community.

The Adopt-a-Family program matches community sponsors with refugee families resettled by the IRC throughout the past year. These families have escaped perilous and oppressive conditions in their home countries, and many have undergone extremely difficult circumstances in order to reach to United States and begin rebuilding their lives. Several families arrive in the U.S. with little more than the clothes on their backs and hope for a better future.

Each refugee family is matched with a sponsor who obtains 1-2 gifts per family member and delivers the gifts either directly to the family or to an IRC office in mid-December. Most families’ wish lists consist of basic items such as winter clothing, shoes and boots, kitchenware, school supplies, and toys for the kids.

You can make a difference in the life of a refugee family this year! Please talk about the program with your co-workers, friends, family members – anyone who might be interested in getting involved and sponsoring a family this holiday season.

Thank you for your consideration! For more information, please email us at Seattle@Rescue.org with 'Adopt-a-Family' in the subject line, or call 206-623-2105.

Update 11/30/2011: We now have community sponsors for all of the families participating in Adopt-a-Family! Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our goal!
