Save the Date: Refugee Artvocacy on June 22nd

On Wednesday, June 22nd, the IRC in Seattle will host its sixth annual Refugee Artvocacy event in honor of World Refugee Day! Refugee Artvocacy 2011 will offer the public an opportunity to learn more about refugee issues and experiences, while giving participating refugee artists an occasion to gain exposure and network with the wider King County art community. The year’s event will feature artwork by refugees currently living in the Seattle area who came to the U.S. from diverse countries around the world, including Bhutan, Bosnia, Eritrea, Iraq, Libya and Ukraine.

Artvocacy follows in the tradition of recognizing the courage of the world’s refugees and seeks to be a voice in King County, raising awareness of oppression in the world by drawing attention to these issues through refugee art. Artvocacy has been a great channel through which we’ve raised refugee awareness in the past and we hope you’ll help us continue this trend in 2011!

Come join us at Refugee Artvocacy 2011 to celebrate the talents of local refugee artists!  Please help us spread the word by inviting your family and friends! Appetizers and beverages will be provided by the IRC and our generous community supporters.

Location: Art with a Heart Gallery, 570 First Avenue S. Seattle, WA
Date/Time: Wednesday, June 22nd from 6-8pm
Admission: suggested $25 donation
