International Rescue Committee (IRC)

Thank You, Summer Interns!

This summer the IRC in Seattle enjoyed the help of thirteen fantastic interns. This year’s summer intern team included both undergraduate and graduate students attending schools across the country, in addition to a couple of recent grads.

Eight interns – Ashley, Caitlin B, Caitlin V, Ellen, Emily, Janet, Shaundra and Tajel – provided daily classroom assistance in the IRC’s Newcomer School Readiness Program. This program helps newly arrived refugee youth learn to navigate a new academic environment. The Summer Youth Interns provided critical support to students ages 5-18 as they learned new skills, made new friends and gained confidence for the school year ahead. The SeaTac office benefited from the talents of four interns this summer. Kerry worked with the employment team helping refugees prepare for their first jobs in the U.S. Halima and Meredith worked closely with our casework staff on a variety of activities, including home orientation visits for newly arrived families. Charles assisted our Logistics Coordinator by helping with apartment set-ups and management of in-kind donations. All four interns provided much-needed support during some of the busiest months of the year for our organization.

Last but not least, Aaron served as the Finance and Grants Intern – the only internship based in the Seattle office. Aaron quickly gained a reputation as a wiz with data and spreadsheets – a skill that will certainly be missed!

Thank you to all of the interns for choosing to spend your summers with the IRC in Seattle – your help has been invaluable! We wish you the best of luck as you return to school and begin what will surely be bright careers.
