Formal Expansion of Immigration Services
On January 09, the International Rescue Committee in Silver Spring signed a letter of understanding with the National Immigration Forum and J. W. Marriott Hotel in Washington DC to facilitate and promote Citizenship at the work place. The agreement will help the IRC Immigration team expand access to naturalization information and services. The team conducted three rounds of informational sessions with 27 clients, 14 of which will complete their applications in the coming weeks. The team is coordinating the next round of information sessions in order to replicate this service in other Marriott locations in DC metropolitan area. The Marriott Hotel management agreed to work with employees and introduced payroll deductions for those who cannot afford to pay the Citizenship fees. Such tripartite agreement is the first of its kind for the IRC Immigration team. This partnership expects to precipitate further engagement between the IRC's immigration advocates and the private sector with the common goal of promoting citizenship at the workplace.
