International Rescue Committee (IRC)

The IRC in Washington DC is now the IRC in Silver Spring!

The IRC in the Greater Washington Metropolitan Area has been resettling refugees for decades. We are also impactfully represented in DC through our Government Relations and Advocacy office downtown. While we enthusiastically shared an office for many years, in 2006 the IRC moved resettlement services to Silver Spring, MD, where we continue to serve refugees and asylees with critical core services, employment assistance and training, ESL classes, health programs and an amazing array of support services. Our DC Government Relations and Advocacy office continues to push ahead with much need federal advocacy efforts, keeping our clietns and programs at the forefront of political debate and agendas. However, this year, on our 5th anniversary we have finally made the switch to reflect our true physical location in downtown Silver Spring! We thought we would make it that much easier for you to find us, especially when we move a few blocks down the road in the new year! And we do hope you will find us - want to know how you can get involved and be part of a truly amazing team of staff, volunteers and interns?

Volunteering with the IRC Silver Spring is a great way to get involved in your community and help change the lives of newly arrived refugees and their families.  We are currently recruiting for our ‘Adopt a Family’ Mentor Program and our ESL Tutoring Program.  Additionally, a number of our core programs have volunteer opportunities throughout the year including the Immigration, Health, and Bhutanese Programs.  Check our website for regular updates on upcoming volunteer opportunities or email VolunterSilverSpring@Rescue.org for more details!
