Refugee Youth Summer Camp

On Monday August 6th, refugee youth from Sudan, Bhutan, and Iraq participated in a week long summer camp in Prince George's County.  Organized by volunteers from Grace Presbyterian Church in Lanham, MD, the camp targeted youth ages 12 through 17 and engaged them in daily activities and lessons.  With a theme chosen for each day, participating youth enjoyed learning to manipulate digital photography, created journals about their journey to the U.S., discussed U.S. geography, and researched future careers including entomology, law, nursing, and law enforcement.

Along with engaging youth in daily activities, the camp also brought together youth from different communities and cultures as local high school volunteers interacted with the participants.  A number of lasting relationships were formed between our youth and youth from Grace Presbyterian that will continue beyond the week.  We thank Grace Presbyterian for a successful week and our youth for their participation and enthusiasm during the camp.
