Traditional Bhutanese Knitting and Crafts Sale!
We are excited to announce our first Bhutanese refugee women’s knitting and crafts sale, to occur on November 19th at Stitch DC, in Tenleytown. If you are in the neighborhood and looking for a beautiful, heart-warming gift (with the added bonus of supporting an amazing group of strong, recently arrived Bhutanese refugee women!), join us!
As part of an International Rescue Committee and Association of Bhutanese in America-sponsored women’s empowerment project, these refugee women, utilizing knitting and crocheting skills learned in Bhutan and Nepal, have created beautiful and colorful hats, scarves, and other items for sale and display. They are hoping the proceeds earned from this event will help them supplement family income, enabling them to more effectively manage the transition from life in the refugee camps to life here in the United States.
Marie, the owner of the “Stitch DC” (and one of our original yarn donors), has generously offered the use of her store to hold this event. The event includes a presentation introducing the Bhutanese refugee women and their personal stories to you. There will be a Q&A session after the presentation as well. Please come join us on the 19th!
Location: Stitch DC, 4000 Albemarle Street NW, Suite 409/410, Washington, DC 20016 (Just across the street from Tenleytown Metro station on the Red Line)
Date and Time: Saturday, November 19th, from 1 PM to 4 PM
