IRC in Silver Spring launches a new Professional Development Mentor program for DC and Maryland!

The IRC in Silver Spring is launching an exciting new Professional Development Mentoring program! Our aim is to help recently arrived refugees and asylees get back onto the professional career and academic paths they were on prior to being uprooted due to conflict and persecution. With the legal right to work upon arrival, our clients are hard-working, motivated and committed. Many have extraordinarily diverse language and cultural competencies, as well as professional backgrounds. We are looking for enthusiastic mentors from the professional communities represented throughout the greater DC metro and Maryland areas, who can help with networking, understanding re-certification processes, offer guidance for tailored job searches and resumes and comprehending complicated field-specific expectations. Our clients represent doctors, lawyers, nurses, teachers, electricians, IT and civil engineers, financiers and small business owners. If you are connected to these professional groups in the area and would like to learn more about how you can get involved with this innovative program, please contact our Community Outreach and Advocacy Coordinator, Danielle Solick, at danielle.solick@theIRC.org. Remember also that many companies have their own rewards for charitable and volunteer work – check with your colleagues, bosses and partners to find out more about these opportunities – and then come talk to us! Thank you for all of your support!
