Looking for ways to get involved and help change lives?
Here in Silver Spring, we really depend on the generosity and dedication of our volunteer partners.
We are very fortunate to have a very high number people interested in volunteering with our refugee and asylee families, but are always looking for more! We have a commitment to providing the best services to our clients as they adjust to life in DC and Maryland and begin the process of rebuilding their lives. We are also committed to ensuring that our volunteers have the best possible experience as they are giving their time and energy and making a real difference in clients’ lives.
In addition to our targeted ESL tutoring program (for more information on this program, please contact us via irc.eslprogram@gmail.com), our core volunteer program is our ‘adopt a family’ mentoring program where volunteers are teamed up and matched with a recently arrived family. You help your family with general needs, concerns, and questions, and help them feel welcome in their new home. This program requires a minimum six-eight month commitment, with the time per week averaging anywhere from two to eight hours, split amongst an assigned team. Please get in touch through the email below if you are interested in learning more about how you can make a meaningful and lasting change in the lives of newly arrived refugees and asylees!
You can also connect to our office and get updates through Facebook - just search for the International Rescue Committee - Washington DC and become a fan!
Thank you so much for your commitment to refugees and resettlement. We could not do our work without your generous support as volunteers. Please contact me with any questions via volunteerDC@theIRC.org
