Thank You University Park Elementary School!

University Park Elementary School just dropped off 23 boxes of shoes to the IRC in Silver Spring!!! Part of their Community Builders initiative, each school classroom has two representatives that attend meetings and help to plan activities. One of the main goals of the Builders is to help those in need. These dedicated representatvies seek to extend that vision by planning community-wide initiatives that include the school, local and world communities of which we are a part.

Last winter the school donated huge tubs of winter coats that helped see our refugee families through a very harsh East Coast winter. The shoes donated today were part of a huge shoe drive the school does in conjunction with their annual 5K run fundraiser. While many of the shoes are headed to Africa for children and families in need, the urge to help locally, and for communities to support each other, brought the remaining extraordinarily generous donation to our door this year as well.
