In June of 2010, the International Rescue Committee launched an emergency response to deadly violence in Kyrgyzstan in the wake of clashes between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbeks which left hundreds dead in four days of looting and burning in the south of the country. Since autumn of 2010, the IRC has implemented dozens of small quick impact projects, and provided job training and individual grants to those in the most hard-hit communities- aimed both at rebuilding communities and infrastructure.

Mali is struggling to cope with a prolonged drought and food crisis that is affecting large areas of the Sahel region of West Africa. The crisis has been made worse by a spreading internal conflict.  On World Food Day, the International Rescue Committee's Peter Biro reports on the worsening crisis and what the IRC is doing to help.
