The IRC in Atlanta’s innovative Microenterprise Development (MED) program provides financial coaching, lending services—including business start-up loans and credit-building loans—and training and technical assistance for refugee-owned businesses. Since the launch of the MED program in January 2018, the IRC in Atlanta has supported 23 refugee entrepreneurs to open new businesses and worked with 18 individuals to strengthen their existing businesses.
First year highlights:
- 23 new businesses launched
- 18 existing businesses strengthened
- 61 individuals received business training, technical assistance and financial coaching
- $170,107.25 distributed in loan capital to 17 individuals
- 26 new jobs created
None of this would be possible without the Georgia community members who have supported the clients of our MED program—as volunteers, donors, interns, mentors and patrons—since its inception. We know that refugees bring many skills, strengths and talents with them as they rebuild their lives in the United States and we are honored to support these entrepreneurial and resilient individuals in the pursuit of their own American Dream.
Whether you’re looking for delicious catering and sweet treats, international clothing, jewelry and hand-made crafts, or a reliable expert to repair your home or car, our MED clients highlighted below have you covered!
