Celebrating refugee voices in Colorado

Last updated

You're invited!

The International Rescue Committee in Denver invites you to join us to celebrate refugee voices at the Colorado Refugee Speakers Bureau – 2019 Showcase on October 9th.

The Colorado Refugee Speakers Bureau was founded in 2017 as a way to help share the rich stories and experiences of Colorado's refugee, Special Immigrant Visa, and immigrant communities. This annual showcase event is an opportunity to meet and hear directly from the bureau's powerful speakers as they talk about their experiences as newcomers to our community, including the obstacles and triumphs of rebuilding their lives in the U.S.

Members of the Colorado Refugee Speakers Bureau gather for a training session.

The Colorado Refugee Speakers Bureau is made possible by a partnership between ECDC's African Community Center, Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains: Refugee and Asylee Programs, the International Rescue Committee in Denver and the Colorado Refugee Services Program.

Each year, the bureau welcomes a new group of speakers to its bureau and provides training on storytelling, creating narratives, and public speaking. This event will showcase our newest members who are originally from countries including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Somalia, and Sudan.
