Earlier this year, chef Kaltum, of Mother of All, spoke with the Utah Department of Health about renovations she wanted to complete in her food truck to expand her business. After receiving quotes to meet specifications, Kaltum realized the renovations were going to be quite costly and put them on hold. Then came the Women's Entrepreneurial Conference (WEC), including a statewide pitch competition where grant funding is provided to women-owned businesses. With the help of Spice Kitchen Incubator, a program of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Salt Lake City, and the Women's Business Center, Kaltum practiced pitching her catering and food truck business, moving forward in the competition.

Finally on April 17th, the WEC Planning Committee invited Kaltum to pitch Mother of All alongside four other finalists from across the state. After her 3 minute pitch, a short Q&A session, and four other business pitches, the competition judges awarded Kaltum second place and a grant award of $2,250. In addition to second place, the audience chose Kaltum to receive the People’s Choice Award, increasing her grant awards for the day by $1,000.

Kaltum is excited to move forward and continue expanding her business. With the WEC grant awards, Kaltum plans to complete renovations and continue to offer her Sudanese cuisine across the Salt Lake Valley.
