Congressman McEachin visits IRC in Richmond

Last updated

Earlier this month, the International Rescue Committee in Richmond welcomed U.S. Congressman Donald McEachin, Representative from Virginia’s 4th District, to the office for a tour and a chance to meet with IRC staff and clients. Congressman McEachin was guided through an orientation of how refugees and Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders are resettled with support from both the IRC and the community. He was then able to meet with clients from Afghanistan, Syria, and Sudan, whom the IRC in Richmond has been fortunate enough to serve over the past few years. In addition to meeting with the Congressman, these clients got the chance to attend a workshop held at the office, where they learned more about the U.S. Constitution.

The IRC is very appreciative of Congressman McEachin’s leadership, and his willingness to promote refugee resettlement as a way of providing both humanitarian assistance and economic growth to the greater Richmond area. Thus far in 2017, the IRC in Richmond has succeeded in in helping 92% of families to become economically self-sufficient through employment within 90 days of arrival.
