The IRC in Denver provides a variety of unpaid internships. Interns have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and learn about the diverse services and programs that help refugees regain control of their lives and become self-sufficient in the U.S.
We recruit interns during the academic year and for summers. Our upcoming program dates for internships are:
- Summer: May 16 – August 17, 2022
- Fall: August 22 – December 16, 2022
- Spring: January 4, 2023 – May 19,2023
- Full Academic Year 2022-23: August 22, 2022 – May 19, 2023

General internship requirements
- Hours per week vary by position (between 8 and 20 hours per week)
- Hours must be completed during normal business hours (i.e. Monday–Friday between 8:30 am – 4:30 pm) unless otherwise stated
- Enrollment in a bachelor’s or postgraduate degree program or pursuing a relevant career
- An interest in international and refugee issues
- Must be reliable and willing to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be flexible and willing to help other teams and departments as needed
- A willingness to learn about the diverse ethnic backgrounds of clients and adhere to IRC volunteer/intern and workplace policies
- Proficiency in other languages, particularly Arabic, Russian, Spanish, Somali, Farsi, Dari, Nepali or Swahili highly desirable

Economic Empowerment Services
These internships are a good fit for individuals with skills related to searching for jobs, writing cover letters and resume, client integration, public transportation and community orientation.
Health Program
These internships are a good fit for individuals with a strong interest in public health and refugee health. Interns with the health program will have a high level of client interaction and fieldwork.
Public Benefits Team
These internships are a good fit for individuals seeking to understand the public benefits landscape and how refugees navigate vital government services after arriving in the U.S. Interns with the Public Benefits Team will have a high level of client interaction and fieldwork.

Safety and Wellness
These internships are a good fit for students pursuing a higher-level degree in psychology, mental health, social work, or a related field. Interns must be enrolled in a graduate program and either a second-year student or have advanced standing.
