The IRC in New York’s immigration team started the year strong with a mock naturalization interview workshop held at the office on January 4th. These workshops have been a hit with clients, and have helped calm nerves about the interview process.

The workshop ran smoothly with the help of 8 volunteers. As the third mock interview workshop, the IRC has solidified the structure of the initiative. The IRC’s immigration team is very grateful for the patience the volunteers show in going through the naturalization application with the clients and explaining challenging vocabulary. Volunteers have gone above and beyond, giving clients practice pointers on how to study for the exam.

Fifteen volunteers have participated so far, and new volunteers are always welcome. The workshops are held on Saturdays, as scheduled by IRC’s immigration team. The team is trying to schedule these events 2-3 weeks before the actual interview so that clients can retain the information and be more focused in the last weeks before their interview.
