Last summer, you generously supported 25 dedicated DeKalb County high school students to commit more than 400 hours of their break to our virtual Ready, Set, College! summer camp. We are thrilled to report that as of May 2021, 100% of seniors who attended camp last year have been accepted to college!
The majority of jobs in the United States now require a college degree; however, young refugees often face numerous barriers to enrolling in and completing post-secondary education. With your support, the IRC in Atlanta’s 2021 Ready, Set, College! summer camp will again prepare 25 students to gain admission to college and equip them with the skills needed to succeed in higher education and beyond!
“If it wasn’t for IRC summer camp, I don’t even know if I’d be able to get through my college application process. IRC literally helps you get ready everything you needed for college application. So, when the admission open, all you have to do is submit. No stress! Besides helping you with college stuff, they also make sure you have fun time. I love the program!” — Ti Meh, current graduating senior
Clarkston High School graduating senior, Ti Meh, attended the IRC’s Ready, Set, College! summer camp for the past two summers! She received acceptances to Georgia State University, Mercer University, Kennesaw State University, Columbus State University, Middle Georgia State University, and finally Berea College in Kentucky, where she will attend in the fall!
Now in its fifth year and continuing in the virtual format, Ready, Set, College! employs a multi-faceted approach to college readiness including interactive Zoom sessions, independent assignments and virtual tutoring hours. Each participant receives support with writing and editing their college personal essay, creating a resume and completing college applications. Students attend workshops on choosing a college and career, the college application process and financial aid and scholarships. Additionally, students participate in virtual activities led by the Georgia State University Psychology department, as well as twice-weekly SAT preparation sessions. Ready, Set College! also includes several fun, creative and social activities for students including arts, crafts, STEM activities, creative writing and the performing arts!
Ready, Set, College! would not be possible without the support of community members like you! Please support a camper today and partner with our new American students as they pursue their educational goals and prepare for their bright futures. No gift is too small!
Thank you for supporting these dedicated and hard-working young people!
