UPDATED 6/30:

Thanks to our generous community, we exceeded our goal, and this year's Ready, Set, College! summer camp is fully funded! Once again, our team will prepare 30 students to gain admission to college and equip them with the skills needed to succeed in higher education and beyond.

Our campers this year include Class of 2022 graduates making final preparations to begin college in the fall, rising Clarkston High School seniors beginning the college application process, and an additional group of newly arrived students—most of whom were recently evacuated from Afghanistan—who join a new camp track designed to prepare 9th – 11th graders to integrate into their local high schools after summer break. Our dedicated staff—with support from incredible community partners—are providing school orientation, English and math support, college and career exploration, STEAM workshops, weekly SAT prep, college application assistance, one-on-one support to complete personal essays, and weekly field trips to museums, nature hikes, and other fun activities.

Our Ready, Set, College! summer camp is back in-person and growing! Please join us and Support-a-Camper in 2022—30 DeKalb County high school students are counting on your generosity this summer!

Last summer, you collectively supported 25 dedicated DeKalb County high school students to commit more than 400 hours of their break to our virtual Ready, Set, College! summer camp, and we are thrilled to report that as of May 2022, 100% of seniors who attended camp last year have been accepted to college!

The majority of jobs in the United States now require a college degree; however, students from refugee background often face numerous barriers to enrolling in and completing post-secondary education. With your support, the IRC in Atlanta’s 2022 Ready, Set, College! summer camp—back in person this year—will prepare 30 students to gain admission to college and equip them with the skills needed to succeed in higher education and beyond!

A quote that reads: “I have learned what is expected or required of me when it comes to going to college. I have learned what I need to do, when I need to do them by, and how I need to do them."

Now in its sixth year and fully back in-person, Ready, Set, College! employs a multi-faceted approach to college readiness including interactive workshops, independent assignments and tutoring hours. Each participant receives support with writing and editing their college personal essay, creating a resume and completing college applications. Students attend workshops on choosing a college and career, the college application process and financial aid and scholarships. Additionally, students participate in activities led by the Georgia State University Psychology department, as well as twice-weekly SAT preparation sessions. Ready, Set College! also includes several fun, creative and social activities for students including arts, crafts, STEM activities, creative writing and the performing arts!
