On October 26th, the International Rescue Committee in Richmond led a TEDxRVA Salon session entitled “Resettling in RVA” at Impact Makers. Virginia State Refugee Coordinator Seyoum Berhe, faith leaders and other key stakeholders led small group discussions and then assembled to hear three panelists: a refugee from Iraq, an asylee from Congo and a Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holder from Afghanistan. More than 100 people were in attendance and listened as the panelists discussed their flight, displacement and resettlement into the United States. The IRC in Richmond Site Manager Stephen Allen served as facilitator and helped the panelists to field questions from the audience. According to the TEDxRVA organizers, it was one of the biggest crowds that had participated in the TEDx events.
