The IRC in Dallas was thrilled to have three Sheraton Dallas Human Resources staff members present to our clients and help with interviewing preparation during the second day of Job Readiness Training. They presented an exciting slideshow of the career trajectory in the hospitality industry, the different opportunities available, as well as the benefits of working at the Sheraton Hotel. The room was packed with refugees from many different language and work backgrounds eager to learn as much as they could!
The Sheraton representatives taught our clients the “Dos and Don’ts” of interviewing and giving their advice on what makes a great interview. They were then able to conduct mock interviews with our clients while giving them feedback on how they can improve their answers when actually interviewing. The experience of spending such quality time with our clients, learning about their barriers first hand while providing a space for collaboration was extremely beneficial for the HR reps and clients alike.
Starwood Hotels has been a fantastic resource for IRC Employment Departments across US Programs, especially in Dallas. They have hired many of our clients, including Sami Daqiq who has been a successful Front Desk Agent with the Sheraton in Dallas for about a year now. Mary Haynes, head of HR at the Sheraton in Dallas, is able to speak Arabic with our clients and connect with them on a more personal level. She wholeheartedly believes in the skill and dedication of refugee employees and uses the mantra “Where there’s a will, there’s a way” in supporting the IRC in Dallas and our partnership.
The Sheraton Hotel has been one of our most pace-setting employers, and we are very lucky to have them as a partner!
