Urgent Help Needed - NY&NJ Emergency Fund

Last updated

With over 60 new refugee arrivals and new asylum seeking families receiving services from the IRC in NY & NJ in July alone, the Robert P. DeVecchi Emergency Fund, named in honor of the former IRC president and used exclusively for direct client needs, is fully depleted and yet is more in demand than ever before. This fund is critical to ensuring families are safe and supported as they adjust to life in New York and New Jersey.

An unprecedented number of families are fleeing persecution, violence, and extreme poverty around the world and are arriving in the United States seeking asylum. In response, the IRC in NY and NJ is expanding our services to assist these asylum-seeking families, some of whom are already arriving at our offices in need of help. We draw directly from our Emergency Fund to offer backpacks filled with essentials like toiletries, food, Metrocards, cell phones, and other critical supplies that any family would need upon arriving in a new city with only a small bag of personal belongings, if that.

The Emergency Fund is also designed to provide other refugee and asylee clients with assistance for emergency housing, medical expenses, and other critical needs. Due to the increasing difficulty in accessing affordable housing and the growing numbers of arrivals in NY and NJ, our fund has very rapidly decreased over the past several weeks. This, combined with our new efforts to assist asylum-seeking families, means that we urgently need your help.

Please give today, and help us raise $75,000 to continue providing crucial services to our newly arrived families and other clients in need. Any contribution you can offer will help us in reaching this goal.

Please donate directly or use the QR code to share with your networks. Make a donation today and help NY & NJ's refugee and asylum-seeking families when they need it most.
