To celebrate #WorldBookDay, April 23, students in our Youth Futures Book Club recorded videos—while sheltering in place at home—to share about their favorite books. Many of the chosen titles were books that the group read together for Book Club, including Divergent by Veronica Roth and We Are Displaced: My Journey and Stories from Refugee Girls around the World by Malala Yousafzai. The IRC’s Student Support Specialist, Ms. Cait, compiled these videos for a special social media post on our channels to commemorate the day and celebrate the students’ love of reading!

Our Youth programming continues to support students virtually throughout this time of physical distancing—including through Book Club! The group still meet weekly and most recently finished reading Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Thanks to a generous IRC supporter, we've been able to purchase copies of the books our students most want to read. After they finish a book, students can either choose to keep their copy or add it to the Little Free Library they built for the Clarkston High School Garden last summer. Our students will soon receive copies of Sadie by Courtney Summers in the mail as we begin our 7th book of the year!
