This year, the IRC in Dallas is launching a new initiative to benefit refugee youth.

This November 2nd, the IRC in Dallas will officially kick off our Home for the Holidays (formerly Adopt A Family) giving program.

By donating clean, new or like-new winter items, you are supporting newly arrived refugee adults and children as they strive to regain control of their future and thrive in our community.

Win Tin and his family were resettled in Dallas from Thailand in 2015. He is in the eleventh grade at Emmett J. Conrad High School. This past summer, Win Tin participated in the Youth Food Justice Internship at the IRC in Dallas, and was asked to write about his experience.

North Texas Giving Day is September 20th.

When Mukabera Uwamaria was 15 years old, she fled the Democratic Republic of the Congo. After five months on the run, she arrived at a refugee camp in Rwanda, where she lived for the next 20 years. There, she met her husband, Eugene, and had four children. The oldest of whom is Elysee Ishimwe. Today, the family has a home in Dallas, Texas. Elysee, now an 11 year old attending Sam Tasby Middle School, was recently the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship from his elementary school. He will be awarded the money upon high school education to go towards continuing education.
