Asylum seeking children experience first ever American “graduation” in LA
This summer, children seeking asylum in the U.S. participated in the IRC in LA’s first ever ESL and financial literacy program. On their last day, they received certificates of completion and celebrated with IRC staff and volunteers. It may be their first “graduation” here in the U.S., but we’re certain it won’t be their last.
Cities for Citizenship: a Citi Partnership expands
In Los Angeles, Mayor Eric Garcetti, who chairs C4C with the mayors of Chicago and New York, made the initiative his signature citizenship-building program. He selected IRC as one of just five organizations—and the only refugee resettlement agency—to implement his plan. The result has been extraordinary.

The Immigration Volunteer will support the Immigration Department in serving refugees and other immigrant members of the local community.
Reception and Placement Volunteer (Remote) - Arabic, Farsi or Dari/Pashtu speaking
The Reception and Placement Volunteer will assist the Reception and Placement Caseworkers to resettle newly arrived refugees in Los Angeles.
Financial Coaching Volunteer (Remote) - Arabic, Farsi, Dari or Pashtu speaking
The Financial Coaching Volunteer supports the Center for Economic Opportunity by working one on one with refugee, asylee, trafficking and other immigrants, including Unaccompanied Minors (UAC's) to learn the basics of building a budget, opening a bank account, and other aspects of financial literacy. Farsi and Spanish speakers especially needed!
