Refugee Resettlement in Sacramento

The U.S. has a long tradition of offering refuge to those fleeing persecution and war. These vulnerable populations have suffered unimaginable hardship and face tremendous obstacles as they start their new lives. The IRC staff and volunteers provide support to refugees from their first moments in the country to help set them on a path to self-sufficiency.

Economic Empowerment in Sacramento

The IRC assists refugees and SIVs in securing employment upon arrival in the U.S., in addition to supporting them as they advance their careers and move towards achieving financial goals. Through job training, resume workshops, mock interviews, vocational scholarships, Vocational English as Second Language (VESL) classes, financial education, and other services, we offer refugees the tools they need to succeed in meeting their short and long-term professional and financial goals.


Immigration in Sacramento

Our Immigration Department strives to ensure equal protection under the law and civic integration of refugees and immigrants, as aspiring new Americans, by assisting them to achieve U.S. citizenship.


New Roots in Sacramento

The New Roots program helps refugees reestablish their ties to the land, celebrate their heritage and nourish themselves and their neighbors by planting strong roots in Sacramento.

How soccer united refugees from around the world in Sacramento

Sacramento is the largest resettlement location for refugees in the nation. Twelve teams made up of refugees from Iraq, Iran, Ukraine, Afghanistan, and Syria, played soccer at World Refugee Day at Papa Murphy's Park on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.
